Add Hulu Desktop to Front Row (Now 10.6 Compatible)
Now works with 10.5 Leopard and 10.6 Snow Leopard!
Updated 11/28/09 Fixed the installation issues
I created a plugin for Front Row on the Mac to add Hulu Desktop called FrontHulu. This is perfect for anyone who has their MacBook or Mac Mini connected to their TV. Just download the plugin and install it.
The Hulu “h” is showing when you select Hulu from the Front Row menu. When you launch it, it will automatically launch Hulu Desktop in fullscreen. Exiting Hulu Desktop will take you right back to Front Row.
You must have Hulu Desktop installed in your Mac’s Application Folder for this to work.
To install go to /System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app/Contents/PlugIns and drop the folder inside.
**Updated 11/28/09** Download Link: FrontHulu

Works great, thanks for the plugin! My only feedback is that the transitions between Front Row and the Hulu app need to be smoother.
Is the link to the plugin still supposed to be live? Because MediaFire appears to have canned it to me.
I just added a link to a mirror site for you, enjoy!

@Dustin
I installed it but it didn’t do anything. How would I uninstall it or fix it?
One way to fix it is just restarting your mac. Frontrow needs to be restarted in order for it to see the plugin. If you don’t want to restart you can go into terminal and give the following command “killall Front\ Row” (without quotes). Keep me posted if this worked or not. My email address is Dasutin@me.com
I just wanted to say thanks for this great plug in, it was exactly want I was looking for.
I’ve loved FrontHulu, however upgrading to Snow Leopard has killed it, even reinstalling it does not work.
Are there any plans to update FrontHulu to work with Snow Leopard.
Hi,
I just downloaded and installed the plug-in. I am running 10.6.2. When I bring up front row the Hulu entry is not shown.
I have no “Front Row.app” in my Core Services folder, and the folder actions button won’t allow me to create a new folder. Any ideas? I’m dying for this plug-in. Very, very cool. Holla.
Cheers.
I feel dumb… but I solved my issue. For anyone with the same question, just “Control+Click” (right click) the Front Row app in the Core Services folder (it won’t have the suffix “.app”, it will just be represented by a generic mac app icon). You can navigate folders from there. You will probably have to authenticate when you move the folder to plug-ins. Don’t be freaked… just enter your admin password, and bam – done.
Thanks for this. Such a cool and convenient idea. Cheers.
On the screenshot above, it also shows Boxee in the front row menu. Is there a similar plug-in for boxee? Any pointers?
Cheers!
Installed, Hulu launches fine, but when I exit Hulu desktop I’m back in the Finder, not Front Row. Any suggestions? Thanks!!
OS 10.6.2
Great Job! Everything works great except when i exit hulu desktop, i do NOT get returned to Front Row…I have to relaunch Front Row manually. no biggee, but I thought I would report it. I’m running on the latest version of Snow Leopard. cheers.
The plugin launches Hulu correctly for me but it does not return to Frontrow after exiting? Any ideas?
